Kendo World Championships Draw Announced
The draw for positions in the pools, both for teams and individuals, at the 14th World Kendo Championships, has been announced.
The British Squad will include the following members:
Mens Squad: Stuart Gibson, Max Davis, Mark Hall, Jon Fitzgerald, Andy Fisher (Cap), Alex Heyworth, Alan Thompson (Vice Cap).
Ladies Squad: Gel Mattsson, Emily knight, Kim Vermeulen.
Sean Starr, the Squad Manager, comments “In the team event, we are in Pool 15. This means that only 1 team goes through this pool. We are drawn against Malaysia and The Netherlands. Both of these are strong teams, but we are definitely stronger. In the following round we are likely to enjoy a rematch with USA. We owe them a beating from last time!”
As for the Individuals, the draw is:
Gel – Pool 22 – Kuwabara (USA) and Dohanyosova (CZE)
Emily – Pool 4 – Kobayashi (AUS) and Nakamura (FRA)
Kim – Pool 28 – Lou (MCO) and Flier (NED)
Andy – Pool 3 – Stojanovic (MNE) and Miranda (CHI)
Alan – Pool 17 – Novak (CZE) and a bye
Gibbo – Pool 28 – Isaac (DOM) and Jastak (POL)
Max – Vigberg (FIN) and a bye
