Dojo Representative’s Committee
The new constitution (adopted at the AGM on 30 May 2009) has, as part of its structure, a Dojo Representatives Committee (DRC) for each Bu. The Chair of each DRC becomes a voting member of the National Committee.
The first step in setting up each Bu’s DRC is for each BKA-registered dojo to nominate a dojo representative: dojo leaders may choose to be the dojo representative themselves, select a dojo member or hold elections – this is entirely discretionary. Letters will shortly be sent out to all dojo leaders regarding this.
It would be helpful if the names and BKA numbers of the dojo representatives could be sent, as soon as possible, to Debbie Bevan (secretary@kendo.org.uk or c/o 16 Hurst House, Penton Rise London WC1X 9ED), and by 4 July 2009 at the latest. Names may be submitted by letter or by email.
Where a dojo is registered for more than one art, for instance for kendo and iaido, then a dojo representative for kendo and a dojo representative for iaido will need to be nominated. This can be the same person taking both roles or two different dojo members.
The first meeting of the dojo representatives, to elect their respective Chairs, will be held as soon as possible. If a dojo representative is unable to attend the meeting then they can nominate a proxy to vote for them. The quorum for DRC meetings is a minimum of 20% of the eligible dojo.
It is hoped that every BKA-registered dojo will participate in the DRC, as members’ views on the operation of their Bu/Association are needed!
Debbie Bevan
Secretary
